Lots of people have told us that some days they just really crave something sweet around the 3pm mark. But when you are trying to lose weight, how do you find something to satisfy the craving without resorting to chocolates, sweets or biscuits you ask? Well today we have six fun ways to enjoy a sweet treat using the goodness of fresh fruit. So many fruit related recipes recommend adding sugar, but we think that if you buy the best quality fresh fruit you can afford, you simply don’t need it.
Natural peanut butter and banana
One of my favourite combos! Take some ripe bananas and chop into 6 pieces. Place on a baking tray or chopping board and freeze until firm. Remove 3 chunks from the freezer at a time and smear with 1 tbsp natural (100% nut) peanut butter.
Strawberries with mint yoghurt
Finely chop some mint leaves and mix through the natural or Greek yoghurt. Get yourself some ripe strawberries and dip into the mint yoghurt.
Apple and pear slices with a healthy dip
Make the healthy dip by blending together ½ cup of low fat cottage cheese, 1 tbsp (100% nut) peanut butter, a sprinkling of cinnamon and 1 tbsp yoghurt until smooth. Serve with sliced apples or pears for a delicious snack.
Frozen grapes, blueberries or dates
Freeze small portions of these fruits which you can enjoy straight from the freezer. Choose sweet seedless grapes, washed blueberries or fresh medjool dates as they all work well.
Pineapple with mint and honey yoghurt
Chop up fresh pineapple into chunks and place in a bowl. Mix natural or Greek yoghurt with 1 tbsp honey. Sprinkle the pineapple with the freshly chopped mint leaves and dollop with the honey yoghurt.
Watermelon salad with mint and feta
The sweet and savoury combination is really good here, and the mint really lifts the flavour. Cut the chilled watermelon into bite size chunks so that you have 1 cup (or use a melon baller if you have one, just for fun!). Add 1 tbsp crumbled feta cheese, sprinkle with fresh mint leaves and the juice of one lime wedge.
